Angels are spiritual beings created by God to be His messengers and perform tasks as he delegates. They never were, or ever will, be human and by comparison are far superior in power and intelligence.
Angels are not restricted by time and distance but neither are they omnipresent(able to be everywhere at the same time) as is God. Though they function in the spiritual dimension, angels can communicate with us through our mind.
Having the power to bless or torment, an angel can do nothing to or for us without the express permission or command of God Himself.
In general an angel would have little interest in us. To them we would be an irrelevant and intellectually barbaric part of creation. We would be as important in their eyes as, say, an ant would be in ours. However; we are the apple of God's eye and His love for people places us at the top of His priorities. This in turn elevates our importance to an angel because they know anything that important to God must have tremendous value; even if the angel doesn't fully understand why.
Angels can be seperated into two categories. One group adore and serve God while the others hate and fight against Him. The rebellious ones are commonly known as demons.
Angels That Serve The LordGod's angels worship and adore Him. His every wish is their command without hesitation. Though they may not understand Him, an angel would never question God. This does not make them mindless idiots. On the contrary; it is their superior knowledge of who God is that has brought them to understand that God is never wrong. Angels are acutely aware of God's supremacy and infallability. They understand, without even a remote hint of doubt, the He is unequalled in majesty and glory. That God is soverign, almighty and singularly worthy of the universe's praise and worship. One unsettling fact about God's angels is that they would as ready kill a person as save them. Consider that it was an angel sent by God to kill the firstborn Egyptian child in every family as punishment for pharoah's refusal to free the jews. Angels obey only God. They cannot be commanded by humans and must never be consulted by us. Should the Lord send an angel to help or deliver a message to us then that is acceptable. however, it is very dangerous for people to seek to make conrtact with angels, even God's angels. It is wrong because God's angels will not independently respond to us. Therefore, we will find ourselves in the vulnerable position of being alone in the spirit realm making us easy targets for deception for demonic angels.
Demonic AngelsLucifer (satan/the devil) is probably the most widely known spiritual being next to God. What many people do not know is that satan is actually an angel. The bible tells us that satan was once THE anointed cherub. He was not "an" anointed but "THE" anointed. Satan was holy; designed to be the most glorious being in God's creation. No other angel had was equal to satan in power or ability. He was perfect in beauty, arrayed in a covering of precious stones like the sardius, topaz, diamond, emerald, onyx, turquoise, jasper and sapphire. To look at satan would be like looking at a thousand rainbows knit together with diamonds. It would have be indescribeable. Satan was created perfect in all his ways. His appearance could not be improved upon without looking exactly like God. Music was created in him making it likely that Lucifer was the one who led the choirs of heaven in massive triumphant worship of God. Satan, being an incredibly beautiful creature, was able to deceive a third of the angels into believing that he was God. In fact, his glorious being was so awesome that satan himself fell to the same deception. He actually convinced himself that he was God. This resulted in the Lord God expelling Lucifer and his angelic followers from heaven. It was likely then that the demonic angels realized that satan was not God and that they had chosen wrong. Demonic angels, having been thrown out of heaven, live with unquenchable and passionate hatred for God. Aware that their destiny is hell and that God cannot be defeated; the demons attempt to fight back seperating him from what He loves the most. People. This explains why demonic angels relentlessly try to dissuade humans from accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. They know that a person who dies without a relationship with Christ will join them in their Godless eternity. While this will not defeat God; it will most certainly cause Him pain.
SummaryIt is somewhat humbling to realize that the only reason angels, good or bad, take any notice of us is because of our importance to God. There is no doubt that they do not understand the Lord's love for us but they have witnessed the evidence. You see; the angels would have observed as God went out of His way to perform miracles that would save people. They watched as His Holy Spirit came to the prophets with messages of warning, guidance, judgement and love. They wondered as He preserved these messages from generation to generation in a collection of writings we call the bible. Even though whole nations tried to destroy the only writings that could help them, God still protected His word. But hen there would be Christ. No words, no feelings, no concepts, no illustrations; indeed, nothing could describe what went through the mind of the angels when they learned that God would become a baby human being. I suspect that if angels had psychiatrists, their appointment books would still be filled with angelic patients looking for answers to the question on all of their minds. WHY? Why would God do this? And if that wasn't enough; both God's and satans angels looked on completely mesmerized as Almighty God would allow humans to crucify His Son upon a Roman cross. Enveloped with unspeakable joy; satan and every demon likely rejoiced in what was the second greates spiritual celebration to this day. At last...thousands of years after being cast out of heaven, Lucifer was able to orchestrate the murder of the Only Son of God and there didn't seem to be anything God could do about it. Well, that's the type of lie satan would have probably embraced. Satan deceived himself into believing that he was right all along. That it was true that he was God. Of course, that was three days before the greatest spiritual celebration of all time. Because Christ had no sin, death had no hold on Him. Jesus, the Son of Man and the Son of God, had risen from the dead three days after being crucified. This was a totally devestating defeat for satan and his demons. Now any person who accepted forgiveness from God through Jesus Christ could no longer be seperated from Him. And that is what pleases God the most...to have fellowship with what He loves the most...people. No, angels may not understand God's love for us. But none in all of creation is more aware of His determination to prove it than are the angels. Josiah David A Servant Of Jesus Christ Oh and by the way...angels are not referred to in the bible as female or bare bum babies therefore the background picture of the angel on this page does not accurately reflect what an angel is.
